Effects of Neurocognitive Rehabilitation on Hand Fuction and Daily Living in Apraxia With Traumatic Brain Injury

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: This research studied what effect the neurocognitive rehabilitation to treat apraxia has on traumatic brain injury patients` upper limb functions, activities of daily living, and recovery from apraxia.
Methods : The subject of this research is a patient whose limbs are paralyzed due to traumatic brain injury. Single subject design was applied. Research was done for four weeks, and results were tested before the therapy (one week), after the therapy (two weeks), and follow-up (one week). The neurocognitive rehabilitation therapy sessions were given five times for 60 minutes over two weeks.
Results : Subjects improved in PQRS. COPM tests for eating, wearing clothes, and brushing teeth, and the scores also improved in Korean Limb and Oral Apraxia. In Grooved pegboard test, right side was 12.6 seconds and left side was 8.3 seconds, which were decreased.
Conclusion : The result showed that upper limb function and ability to perform activities of daily life of patients with apraxia due to traumatic brain injury improved when neurocognitive rehabilita-tion therapies was administered to them
